To understand the meaning of Jesus’ birth, we can see from the following scripture:
But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger. ”Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” (Luke 2:10-14)
1. It is about all the people
Jesus’ born is a good news, it is about all the people, therefore, some hymns say, “joy to the world, the savior’s born”. It is not an Eastern or western religion, it is the religion of all mankind. It is not the good news of Christianity or Catholic church, but everybody’s good news.
2. Jesus is savior
“Today in the town of David a savior has been born to you” (v. 11) Jesus is savior who can save all the mankind, so that we do not have to perish because of our sin. We have been redeemed by His blood, He is our savior.
3. Jesus is Christ (v. 11)
Jesus does not only become our savior, he is our Lord, the Lord that we have to honor and follow. He is Christ, the Anointed One. In Hebrew culture, only king, priest and prophet were called anointed, so Jesus is King, priest and prophet.
4. Glory to God (v. 14)
The birth of Jesus is the glory of God, because He is the only one, is the manifestation of power, is also the sample of humility, the wisdom of God. His birth has also determined his death. The love of God has shown. Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!
Wish you all Merry Christmas!
