Celebrating the Feast of Tabernacle in fellowship with our Lord

This year, the Feast of Tabernacles shouted for joy from the evening of the 6th to the evening of the 13th of October, and the Eighth Day of the Feast of Tabernacles paraded in heavenly ranks from the evening of the 13th to the evening of the 14th, for a total of eight consecutive days.

What is the significance of the Feast of Tabernacles?

According to Leviticus 23:33-44, the Feast of Tabernacles mentions three main celebrations:

  1. Sacrifice in the Temple

    • However, after the destruction of the Temple in 70 AD, the Jews replaced the Temple sacrifices with Scripture reading and prayer, and today we can all go to the House of Prayer in the North Point to offer sacrifices, worship, and read the Scriptures.

  2. Take the fruit

    • And ye shall take you on the first day the boughs of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, and the boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook; and ye shall rejoice before the LORD your God seven days. ( Leviticus 23:40)

  3. Many families in Israel remember the multitude of His mercies on that day with reverence and godly fear. They would build a shelter out of simple materials and live in it for a short period of time in remembrance of their forefathers who, after being led out of Egypt by God, had also made a shelter in the wilderness and lived in it for 40 difficult years.

"That your generations may know that I made the children of Israel to dwell in booths, when I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God." (Lev 23:43).

In the church today, we also celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles and remember the Feast of Tabernacles.

Apart from how to celebrate the festival, we should also understand the spiritual significance of the Feast of Tabernacles:

  1. The "tabernacle" of the Feast of Tabernacles is a temporary shelter, which reminds us that our earthly life is only a temporary shelter, and that our destiny is not only to build up an earthly material life and a dwelling place, but also to build up and maintain an eternal sweet fellowship with God.

  2. Reminds us of how we pass through the water and walk through the fire , suffer affliction on earth, to learn to look to and trust in God's leading and provision, and to put our hope in God's promises.

  3. The Feast of Tabernacles reminds Israel that God was with them, compassed us about , in the wilderness. For Christians, John 1:14 mentions that "the Word became flesh and dwelt among us", where the Greek word for "dwelt" is σκηνόω, which means "to pitch a tent", which reveals Jesus' role as God's tent. This reveals that Jesus came to earth as the tabernacle of God to be with man.

We thank the Lord that we now have Jesus as our "tabernacle" with us, so remember to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles by worshiping, singing, praying, reading Ecclesiastes, and dancing joyfully for the seven days of the Feast of Tabernacles.
