Rev. Gary Shek, Rev. Rey
Last Thursday we had funeral service of our sister Charlene Andrade. She has been attending English service for over 7 years. She died of cancer that goes up to her brain. She was left with a husband Dan and 7-year–old Danielle. This thing has reminded of the scripture a Psalms of Moses “Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures; yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away.
“If only we knew the power of your anger! Your wrath is as great as the fear that is your due. Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” Psalms 90:11– 12 really struck my heart and I want to share with you what God has reminded me from this verse. This was Moses conversation with God. And He ask God to teach us to Number our days…. Why?
Our sister was only 42 years old. She has a lot of dreams for her life and her daughter. But where she is now? With the Lord. God reminded us today to learn to number your days – so that you may gain a heart of wisdom. If you will not care to know, that life is limited. You will not care how you live too. You will live like the man Jesus mention in the parable (Luke 12:18-20). ‘“Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’ Nothing! Think that.
Here are some guidelines to teach how to number your days and live happily and be blessed (N.U.M.B.E.R.)
Nourish yourself with the Word of God daily – Matthew 4:4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” You take care yourself better because you want to leave long fine and that’s great!. But is is greater if you also feed your heat, mind and self with the Word of the Lord!
Understand and Know life is Limited – James 4:14 “You do not even know what will happen tomorrow! What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” Yes, you are the mist that appears for a little while. People’s time to be with the Lord could be anytime. Are you ready to be in heaven? Are you sure you will be there? Check your faith, check your heart.
Make the most of your time Loving God and Loving People – Matthew 22:37-39 “Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Since our life is limited would that be good to enjoy it, by loving God. Praying more worship more, and loving people? Instead of making lots of enemies would you make more friends and help more? Instead of hating people, forgiving them more. “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones”. Proverbs 17:22.
Believe, Trust and Have Faith in Jesus – Romans 10:9 “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Jesus alone is your salvation. If you have not fully surrendered your life to Jesus. Do it now. Tomorrow might be late. And share Jesus to your family too so that you all enjoy life in heaven.
Exercise Your Faith – James 2:17 “In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” Yes! You need to let that faith works or else you will live like the Pharisees, Stop saying “Oh I pity you” if you cannot help him. Put more action in your talks. You claim to be matured Christian but still immature. Grow up! Start fighting the devil not the people. You are an army of the Living God.
Remain in the Lord no Matter What! – John 15:5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” Stand firm, let nothing move you from your secure position in God, Trust Him, Believe Him, Hold on to Him. No matter what challenges you may have, because apart from the Lord you cannot do anything.
